Majorca’s seaside resort of Can Picafort lies in the Bay of Alcúdia. This resort is on the opposite side of the island from Palma on the northern coast. A good 1.5 hour drive from the airport to the south.

Can Picafort forms part of the municipal district of Santa Margalida. This part of Majorca is a popular choice for German holidaymakers. It also boasts the largest amount of archaeological sites on the island.

If you are a history buff with a penchant for strong blondé beer and bratwurst, Can Picafort is the place to head for.

Can Picafort Beaches & Harbour

This resort has a small harbour with a nautical club and several bars and restaurants. From here you can take in the splendid views while enjoying a drink or meal.

Next to the harbour, a small headland marks the start of the resorts beaches. These excellent beaches have clean sand and good facilities. The Can Picafort beaches stretch all the way to neighbouring Playa de Muro.

Here there are more bars and restaurants interspersed with hotels and holiday apartments. Playa de Muro beach is one of the longest beaches in Majorca with a length of around 3 km.

Can Picafort, Alcúdia and Playa del Muro form one of the longest stretches of beach on the island.

The resort’s nightlife revolves around the bars along the beach and in the resort’s centre. There are more entertainment venues found within Can Picafort’s larger hotels.

Those wishing to party into the small hours can choose from Skau Nightclub. Trotters bar (picture above), Discoteca Charly’s, and the Red Lion have karaoke nights.

Aside from beach games and the playgrounds, there a few activities for the young ones. A 20 minute drive along the coast takes you to Alcúdia and it’s beautiful bay. Here all the family will have fun at the exciting Hidropark. This popular park boasts many slides and water attractions.

Son Real Necropolis

The Son Real Necropolis is one of the most important archaeological site in Mallorca. This is also the case for the Balearic Islands in general. Here you will find tombs dating back as far as 1750 BC. Many tombs are the resting place for those who would have been in high society. Others are warriors who fought in battles throughout history. There is even one tomb of a warrior with an arrowhead inside his head.

Restoration took place in two phases to recover artifacts and restore the tombs. The first was between 1957-1969 and the second 1998-2019. According to the official tourism site, 143 have been discovered covering an area of 935 m2. In total, the resting place for 425 individuals. Many important artifacts were also found such as weapons, pottery and tools of eras past. Unfortunately there has been some plundering and vandalism of the site over the years. This makes the restoration work more important.

Walking & Cycling Routes

Walking & CyclingCan Picafort has many cycling and walking routes for those who enjoy a little exercise. In total there are three cycle routes and four walking routes.

You can check both the itineraries here which provide more detail. This includes the distance of each route and time to complete it. There is also a difficulty chart for each to give you an idea of how intense each route is.



Can Picafort has 8 bus lines but only the 316 and 326 run all year round. The others as you may guess are for the tourism season when more people visit. You can get to pretty much every part of the island from one of these bus lines.

Taxis are obviously available whenever you need one and there are good car and bike hire services. You could also hop on the mini train to take you to the core areas of Can Picafort. The train ride usually takes 25 minutes in total.
